The Somerset Journey –Sounding out Somerset: Schedule
Saturday July 28th - Weymouth Battle for the Winds
Our journey concludes when our Somerset Wind Gatherers arrive with the ‘Ark Hive’ in Weymouth where they will battle, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Wiltshire, West of England and Gloucestershire in, ‘The Battle For The Winds’.
“Throughout the day, the Wind Gatherers process along the esplanade in pomp with their fantastical wind vessels, assembling at the beach ready to present the winds to Aeolus, father of the winds.
During the evening, a spectacular battle takes place high in the air on Weymouth beach as the Wind Gatherers compete to see whose wind will be chosen to power the sailing events.
The Seven Wind Gathering teams are joined by Breathe company, a group of beings who can raise the most powerful winds with their spirit, passion and breath. Doldrum has captured some of the Breathers in his attempt to stop the winds.  Disabled and non-disabled performers will tell the story of Doldrum’s defeat by the Breathers in a stunning outdoor performance of aerial work, circus and dance.
The eight points of the compass are united in a final dramatic celebration of the release of the winds, including a massed ‘squibbing’ performance, fire torches in the sea, performances on stage and in the air, video projections and pyrotechnics.  The winds are released to the sea and the sailing events can commence.” -from the 'Battle for the Winds webpage
